Rawchestra Rehearsal at the BBC

As those of you following the project will know Salford City’s very own orchestra the BBC Philharmonic are one of the partners in Joe of firethe project. This week they kindly invited the young people and musicians from Rawchestra to rehearse in their fantastic broadcast space, the legendary Studio 7 on Oxford Road.

As you can see it was a big space for 30 musicians but the sound more than filled the space with all enjoying the experience. We are now only one week away from the final performance at Salford Lads club on Sunday 22nd November 2009 @ 7.00pm. It’s by invite only but we have a few tickets spare. If you want any please e-mail matthew@cdhcreatives.com

Salford Lads Club - Main Hall

Just come back from a site visit at Salford Lads Club which will be the venue for the final performance for the “Dirty Old Town’ project as part of the 6th Salford Film Festival on the 22nd of November 2009 (7pm provisionally) he building is probably best known for it’s association with The Smiths  (See video) but more importantly than that it has been a hub of the community for over 100 years and still is to this day.  The place drips with history and the dedication and energy of those working there is evident to all.

Not only were we made to feel very welcome but there is a genuine interest in what we were doing.

About the “Dirty Old Town” project

Dirty Old Town is an exciting new youth project for the Sixth Salford Film Festival combing live music and film. Produced byships CDH Creatives working with the BBC Philharmonic and Rawchestra this new orchestra is made up of a combination of traditional orchestral instrumentalists, drummers and percussionists, guitarists, keyboard players, singers and any body else that turns up, to create a totally new performance repertoire in response to young peoples films and vision of Salford.

The project takes inspiration from the iconic song “Dirty Old Town”, written in 1949  by one of Salfords most famous sons, Ewan MacColl about Salford and its industrial landscape. salfordlightsLike much of today’s music it was a social commentary of its time and will act as a starting point for the Rawchestra to create a soundtrack that will work alongside a series of contemporary moving images of Salford, that will be created by young people.

The final piece will be performed live at a TBC venue in sync with the final edit of the film on the 22nd of November 2009.
